NSW: Shadow treasuer Stephen O'Doherty resigns = 2

With only one year remaining in his term, Mr O'Doherty said he did believe think he
was deserting his electorate in Hornsby.

He said hospitals and schools in the local area had been crying out for money, but
the Carr government had not delivered.

Mr O'Doherty said after nine-and-half years in parliament, it was time for a change.

He will take up a position with a new education organisation, Christain Schools Australia,
in the new year.

"It is no secret that I have a deep and abiding interest in education, especially to
values in education," he said.

"This passion for education and my commitment to family are both a reflection of the
Christain faith which gives meaning to my life."
